Crystal Therapy

Crystal therapy or crystal healing is based on the belief that crystals and gemstones have properties that can positively affect our physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well-being. Here’s an overview of how crystal therapy works:

Energetic Properties: Each crystal emits its own unique energy vibrations which are thought to interact with the body’s energy centres, known as chakras, to restore balance and promote healing.

Alignment and Balance: Different crystals are associated with specific healing properties. For example, amethyst is often linked with calmness and clarity, while rose quartz is associated with love and compassion. Practitioners may place crystals on or around the body, so that their energies can help align and balance us.

Intent and Focus: Crystal therapy often involves setting intentions and focusing on specific goals or areas in need of healing. The stones are used to amplify these intentions and assist in the healing process. This practice of becoming clear on what we desire and then focussing upon it is a powerful ally in manifesting the life we seek.

Holistic Approach: Crystal therapy is often used as part of an overall holistic approach to wellness, complementing other practices such as meditation, yoga, or traditional medical treatments such as acupuncture and massage.

Cleansing crystals is required regularly to keep them in a vibrant condition. Since they accumulate negative energies, particularly when used in any healing capacity, it is imperative to clear them and thus restore their natural healing properties.

Here are several methods commonly used to cleanse crystals which you may like to try out at home on your own stones:

Water: Submerging crystals in clean water is a simple and effective method. But is only suitable for certain specimens as some crystals can dissolve or be damaged like this. If in doubt, therefore, avoid this method. Be sure to use only natural running water, such as a stream or river, or place them under a tap perhaps. You can also place them in a bowl of water with a bit of sea salt for a few hours as salt is particularly cleansing.

Salt: Burying your crystals in dry sea salt or Himalayan salt for a few hours to a few days is believed to draw out negative energies and is a popular and highly effective cleansing method.

Selenite: Selenite is an example of a self-cleansing crystal which is often used to cleanse other stones. Place the crystals you want to cleanse on a slab of selenite for several hours or overnight to clear their energies.

Smudging: Passing crystals through the smoke of sacred herbs like sage, palo santo, or cedar is believed to cleanse and purify their energies. Light the smudge stick and allow the smoke to envelop the crystals. Take the chance to cleanse your own energy while you do so.

Sunlight and Moonlight: Placing crystals in direct sunlight or moonlight for a few hours can help recharge and cleanse them. Be cautious with this method as some crystals can fade in direct sunlight.

Sound: Some practitioners use sound vibrations from singing bowls, bells, or tuning forks to cleanse their crystals. Simply hold the crystal near the sound source and let the vibrations clear away unwanted energies.

Even if you are a novice and have no idea or even a desire to become a crystal healer, you may like the idea of placing them around your home. Simply because they are so beautiful. Here’s how to get the best out of the crystals you already own to enhance your living space:

Placement: Strategically placing crystals in different areas of your home can help balance and uplift the energy there. Here are some examples:

  • Entrance Hallway: Position a protective stone like black tourmaline or hematite near the entrance to ward off negative energies. These stones are also good for helping to keep your filing cabinet free of negativity, especially if it’s full of complaint letters and legal documents!
  • Living Room: Place a large clear quartz or amethyst in the living room to promote harmony and relaxation.
  • Bedroom: Rose quartz, known for fostering love and tranquillity, can be placed in the bedroom for a calming atmosphere and fluorite will assist in ensuring a relaxed and sleep-ready vibe.
  • Work Area: Citrine or pyrite can be placed in the workspace to encourage creativity, focus, and that all important abundance vibe.

Water Infusions: Infuse water with the energy of crystals and use it for cleaning, misting, or watering plants in your home. Simply place cleaned crystals in a glass container with water and allow it to sit in sunlight or moonlight for a few hours before setting to work sprucing up your home. Be sure not to immerse crystals that dissolve easily though so a quick google is worth doing beforehand.

Decorative Pieces: Incorporate crystals into your home decor. Display them in bowls, vases, or shelves to not only enhance the energy but also add beauty and natural elements to your space. Larger pieces make great book ends and paperweights too so get creative.

Clearing and Charging: Always remember to regularly cleanse and charge your crystals to maintain their positive energies. It is better not to have crystals at all than to have ones filled with accumulated stress and negativity.
